The rule I follow is "always consider the source". I assign much lower weight to advice coming from a journalist or TV talking head - their investment backgrounds are generally shallow. When I hear advice coming from a large brokerage firm employee or broker (for example, Ralph Acampora), I say to myself this guy has a vested interest in generating transactions for their employer or unloading unwanted securities inventory of the brokerage firm, not making me money. The advice I value the most is Brinker's because he is not involved in the investment sales side of the business, he has an economics background, has taught investments in college, and has any years of experience managing money. Although he sells a newsletter, he has a vested interest in being correct in his advice to retain subscribers and get new ones.

Flanagan, although somewhat boring, seems to do about as good a job as can be expected from someone subbing for A GIANT like Brinker. I've never heard of anyone who could come close to doing half as good a job as Brinker has done doing investment programs on the radio since October 1981. Brinker is truly unique from my viewpoint - he is a great gift to those willing to listen, learn and implement his ideas. He has made a BIG difference in the lives of many listeners, including mine - and for that I am and will be forever grateful to him.
