- For the fourth consecutive week, Big Pharma declined (-0.1%) as compared to larger declines for the Dow (-2.0%) and the NAStie (-3.1%). This week's winners include GLX (+3.9%), MRK (+2.8% on a ML upgrade), and SBH (+2.3%). This week's losers include PNU (-5.4%), PFE (-2.2%) and AHP (-1.8%).
-YTD, Big Pharma (+24.3%) is tripling the correcting Dow (+6.5%) and almost doubling the NASTie (+14.0%).
-In the YTD race, the "Big 3" still held their positions with #1 WLA (+70.8%) followed by SGP (+52.5%) and PFE (+35.7%). AHP (+32.2%) is right behind based on its Monsanto deal. LLY (-1.4%) is almost in the black.

Last Friday Versus Pre-Viagra Date To evaluate how Big Pharma has performed since the introduction of Viagra, an analysis of Big Pharma prices as of 4/03/98 was conducted with prices as of last Friday's close. Here are the key findings:
-During this period, Big Pharma increased 2.9% as compared to a 6.2% decline for the Dow.
-Surprising, PFE is lower today (-0.7%) than before Viagra was stocked in record breaking levels in pharmacies on 4/03/98.
-The leading Big Pharmas during this period were AMGN (+19.5%), LLY (+17.0%), and WLA (+15.3%)
Last Friday Versus the Dow High Date
On Friday, July 17, 1998, the Dow (9,338) and the S&P (1,187) reached their all-time highs. Here is how Big Pharma has performed since that date:
-During this period, the Dow has corrected 9.8% as compared to slightly lower decline for Big Pharma (-8.4%).
-Only one Big Pharma...LLY (+1.6%)...has increased. LLY is also the only Big Pharma to show a YTD decline.
-The greatest declines during this period were for SBH (-15.2%), BMY (-13.8%), PFE (-12.6%) and WLA (-11.2%). _________________________________________________________
