I am not sure I would have used the word innovative in the above paragraph but I understand and agree with your point. Having dealt for many years with Japanese firms (still counting several Japan companies in my client list) this is not a myth at all but runs deep to the truth about Japanese organizations IMO. It is one of the reasons I believe we see so many characterizations such as "frozen in the headlights" and "still in the denial stage" when commentators discuss Japan's handling of their economic woes. When it is not "business as usual" Japanese organizations are at a loss IMO. However, I will say that I think Sony is less so then many other companies in Japan.

We are seeing the ultimate test of Japanese stoicism. I fear it is leading to a disaster that the globe will not escape.
