Clinton: I had an inappropriate but passive relationship with Monika Lewinsky. It struck me that this poor lonely girl needed guidance and I let her have an affair with me as a favour to her in that critical stage of her development of self esteem. What better confidence builder than to have an affair with the president of the United States! I did not however inhale during our brief assignation.

Starr: Are you trying to tell us that this lets you off the hook? What do you take us for?
