Bryan,
I agree that Florida is where you will see the most direct confrontation
between DAL and SWA, but if you look at the entire US and as a percentage
of SWA system, it is a small (but very important) percentage of the
whole. SWA will feed Florida from various points (Hou,BWI,BNA,etc.)
while I think DAL will still want to use the Atl as the center of the
universe mentality.
I think the loser in all this is going to be USAir. It will be a
large battle, because the east is their last stronghold (after getting
run out of California), but they simply cannot compete due to their high
costs.
BTW, competition to SWA is actually not a negative. It generates
interest in flying to the public and gets people to come out and try us.
The more choices at an airport helps people to connect to wherever they
are trying to go and makes them more likely to fly.
