Because it was near Boston . The 128 Loop area was the silicon
hotspot back thirty years ago.

IBM is in Vermont because T.J. Watson, the CEO got into soaring,
and Mt. Mansfield has a great wave certain times of the year. By
having a wire contact relay plant close by he could write off
the commutes as a business expense. Later they realized that the
granite underpinnings of the state made for very low ground
vibration for a fab.
