Earnings,

Tweaker,

re your I know there are legal ways to move things around and make the books look good.

Why don't we leave that kind of manipulation to E. Pfeiffer and his company? I'll just be satisfied if DELL moves product to make the books look good.

There are some serious downsides to 'moving things around'. 1) First, you are borrowing from the future earnings, so that they are in a very real sense hostage to continued superior performance. 2) Next, you are likely to eventually reach a point where your report retains no recognizable relationship to reality, and might even be considered fraudulent. 3) Perhaps at least as important a factor is that this practice can seriously impact your management team's reputation for ethical and honest dealing with the public and their shareholders. In DELL's case this is a very real, though intangible asset; one we should treasure.
