Countdown: 500 Days To Y2K

Business Wire - August 17, 1998 10:10

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 1998--

August 18, 1998 marks 500 days to the dreaded Year 2000.

For the most authoritative perspective on the Year 2000 issue at this historic juncture, Computerworld has compiled over 2000 resources, including Web sites,
newsletters, product reviews, articles and other valuable sources. Located at www.computerworld.com/500days, these sources include:

-- Listings of Y2K software/hardware

-- Buyer's guides

-- FAQs

-- Reports from Morgan Stanley and International Data Corporation and many other firms

-- Cost estimations from expert sources

-- News on training and seminars

-- Discussion groups

-- Legal and technical issues

Computerworld has followed this issue longer than anyone. In February 1984, Editor-in-Chief Paul Gillin (then a reporter for Computerworld) got a tip from a
source in Detroit, who had an idea that was so offbeat, so screwy, that Gillin thought it just might make his editors happy. The idea was that a lot of computers
would stop working on New Year's Day, 2000. Until then, no one wanted to listen.

With that conversation, Gillin began his education on the Year 2000 and Computerworld reported its first story about the problem. Now, 500 days away from the
Millennium, Computerworld's resources on the topic have grown substantially. The issues and controversy surrounding the Year 2000 are covered each week by
Computerworld's reporters and expert columnists.
