The ruble devaluation and pending conclusion of the Clinton matter are both positives for the market. I believe that because I see these occurrances much like swallowing untasty medicine. The devaluation needed to happen in the short term (where it goes from here is still up in the air, but the short term problem has been dealt with), and whatever happens today will firmly define the future of Mr. Clinton (one way or another). It is the uncertainty (or waiting for certainty) that has derailed the market. I think Wall Street has already factored in at the very least, a classic lame-duck presidency. At worst, I think the President would resign if the political pressure became too great.
