Melinda,
Conference calls are designed to help inform investors of upcoming events. Basically it is a tool that many companies use to let investors actually hear a voice from someone within the company. Many companies will allow you to fax questions to the IR person relating to questions you may have. They may or may not be addressed but it's worth a try if you have a question you want answered. They will publish an 800 number to call at the time the call will take place and generally there is an alternate number to call to listen to a replay of the call. Hope this helps.
