Eric, Extra shares do not change the bottom line profits, that is true, but they impact the EPS in direct inverse propertion to the relative numbers issued. So they cut away at share values and cause the shares to fall as the EPS falls.
It is a painless way IMO as it saves cash.
What gets me is why does Intel buy them back? no tax deduction for buying back shares, all it does it burn EPS ?

It does buttress the share price so the dog and pony show can go on.
