alien,

If this was the thing that Kahuna wishes to point out then it is old news--martin and I already discussed this earlier today on the shorter's thread. You are absolutely correct in pointing out that in order to have a profitable year Vivus would have to make a profit of over $70/share to make up for loses in the first 6 months of the year.

Currently Zacks has an analyst's estimate of .04 for Q3. If this estimate proves accurate then Vivus would have to make .66/share in Q4 to have a profitable 1998. We all know that this will not happen since even their best quarter in 1997 did not exceed .40/share.

I do however think that the estimate for q4 is too low and with all the cuts in employees and restructuring charges already taken, that they can easily make .10 for Q3. A Q4 of .20 to .25 IMO would be considered very good and is higher than current analyst's estimates. This would give Vivus a loss of .40 to .45 for 1998. 1999 will be a completely different story.
