Novell Appoints Denice Gibson as Senior Vice President and General
Manager, Distributed Networks Business Unit

OREM, Utah -- August 26, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today announced the appointment of Denice Y. Gibson, former vice president and general manager of the Information Access Division, as senior vice president and general manager of the Distributed Networks Business Unit. Gibson, (41), is responsible for strategy, development and marketing of the industry-leading NetWare network operating system and its evolution into the IntranetWare intranet platform, the ManageWise network management solution, the Novell Cross-Platform Services product, and the company's developer support program. She reports directly to Steve Markman, executive vice president and general manager, Novell Products Group.

Gibson's management career spans 23 years in telecommunications, systems software and hardware development. Prior to joining Novell in 1996, she was most recently with Tandem Computers where she held positions in Texas with the telecommunications products group and in California as a member of executive staff. She has also held senior management positions with Candle Corporation and Amdahl Computers. In addition, she provides management consulting and serves as part of the adjunct faculty at local universities where she teaches management and computer science courses.

"Denice Gibson brings a superb combination of engineering management experience and marketing vision to the leadership of Novell's Distributed Networks Business Unit," said Markman. "She is the right executive to drive the evolution of NetWare into a leading intranet platform, and to make Novell's network services available as open standards across all major platforms on intranets and the Internet."

Gibson completed her doctorate in engineering management from Pepperdine University in 1990. She has also attended Stanford University, University of San Francisco, and the University of Southern California.
