While I respect your point of view, I don't agree. Suppose a politician was guilty of murder, incest, and/or child molestation in his private life. From your response, you wouldn't care. If you do care, then it's a matter of degree, and perjury isn't a serious crime in your eyes. So be it. Considering the evidence, I find it hard to understand how you can put "lie" in quote marks.
I can understand how someone could forgive minor offenses in a politician, but for me you can't divide a person in two. The public part and the private part are parts of the same person, they don't exist in isolation. While I might vote for somebody like Clinton for dog catcher, I think the man who holds the little red button that can get us all nuked should have the highest mental and moral character.
Clinton's self destructive behavior toward women leaves the question of his mental and emotional stability somewhat in doubt. He has destroyed the legacy of what could have been a great presidency, and put himself in a position where he is a powerless lame duck. The biggest weapon a president has is the "bully pulpit", but this won't be very useful if his appearances only remind people of sexual scandal and perjury. Prior to this problem, he was well on his way to being the most successful Democratic president since F.D.R. What a shame that he blew it just for a little temporary gratification..As Nixon is remembered for Watergate, Clinton will be remembered for this affair. I might add that we don't know what else Starr has up his sleeve. Clinton's troubles probably aren't over.
