The current Gilder Technology Report says that "in retail channels, non-Intel processor market share in desktop PCs rose from 6% in January, 1997 to 36% in January, 1998. For instance, AMD processor PCs accounted for 45% of sub-$1,000 sales. Thus, CPQ can claim its highest margins from their sub-$1,000 PC of all their lines because of cheaper components. The iMac, however, doesn't have the comparable advantage of cheaper components ...or does it? Anyone?
