No rose (no reference intended) spectacles -as for Starr being in the catbird's seat only time will tell - and it won't take long to find out - we're into raw politics here at this stage of the game,we're not in the court of law, but the court of public opinion and votes - we'll have to watch for Hatch's reaction as an early indicator. Remember that Starr so far has been the conductor of an enquiry where only the prosecution case has been made, and orchestrated. Only evidence against the Presisdent is of interest -potential witness have been threatened/blackmailed and in at least one case jailed - all of this is not lost on the voters. The political reality is that a timetable for impeachment proceedings is limited, and Republicans might really shy away if the election is to be fought on the issue of sexual conduct. Newt's conduct does not stand up to scrutiny. As Pierre Trudeau said 'the State has no place in the bedrooms of the nation'.

I realise that most of the sentiment on this string is right wing and anti-Clinton, but we are trying here to guage the real effect of this business on the markets and should focus on the realpolitik of this case. This president is a formidable survivor.

And if the President's sexual conduct is to be an election issue I fear that everyone's (standing for election) sexual conduct will be an issue, and this will become a huge case of people in glass house.
