Ok ... now for the reality check ... I live in Heber City (where the phone lines suck, but my frame relay T1 works just fine!) and have numerous friends who have been trying to get DSL service. There are a couple of points:

1. U.S. West is only offering 256Kb service ... unless you are lucky and you pay alot!

2. On the installs that I have been tracking they are having a 50% success rate, if that. I have numerous friends in Salt Lake that can't get service for one of two reasons ... a) they are in a "new" neighborhood, where it is not yet cost effective to deploy DSL, or b) they are in an "old" neighborhood where the lines are crap and they can't get a carrier.

I'll wait to hear about the great success rates ... I'm not sure it will be as rosey as you propose ...

Not at the price! I just got cable modem access for my folks out in Northern CA (http://www.tci.net) and for $40/month they have megabit service ... not the 256Kb that USWest is advertising ...

I know this was not directed at me ... and I agree completely ... except you really need to check into infrastructure before moving ...

I think I found my next homestead ... two hours from the nearest airport, but right on the path of several major fibre trunks! I can hop wireless from the access point to the mountains where I'm looking at property! ;-)
