Bill & Elmer, I don't think there's much point in AMD licensing the P6 bus protocol. NSM has had the opportunity for a year and hasn't started on any P6 bus products that I'm aware of. The P6 bus protocol is unnecessary with on-chip L2 cache of a reasonable size (with only 128K on the Mendocino, though, cache accesses will be twice as frequent but take half the time, so it will be a wash vs. the Pentium II). The new socket470 packaging should have adequate heat dissipation for the 0.25u generation. Since mendocino with socket 470 will be the cheapest way for Intel to make a CPU, I suspect it will replace the Pentium II cartridges quickly. Petz
