I cannot compare it with the way things are in other countries. This is America, a fairly puritanical, religious culture. While I am not very pious I have a fourteen-year-old daughter, and am attempting to teach her honesty and fidelity and good moral standards. This crisis erodes our collective standards of behavior, and has polluted and compromised the innocence of our children. Clinton is different from our other presidents who had affairs outside of their marriages because he was so reckless that he was unable to keep them at all discreet. Since the Gary Hart debacle American politicians know that press pursues their private lives. Clinton broke the rules knowing what the rules were.
