Scangraphics Unit, Sedona Ships SpatialVision Version 1.0 for

LIMERICK, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 18, 1998--

Accessing and Visualizing Oracle Enterprise Data

New Java Based, Internet Query, Reporting and Visualization Tool Enhances the Effectiveness and Productivity of Business Users

Sedona(R) GeoServices, Inc., a Scangraphics company (NASDAQ: SCNG), today announced availability of SpatialVision Version 1.0. SpatialVision(TM) is an inexpensive, intuitive desktop and mobile application for accessing, analyzing and visualizing enterprise geo-spatial data stored in Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) databases.

"The goal of SpatialVision is to provide commercial and government business users easy access to the breadth of information available in their existing corporate databases," says Colin Matthews, President of Sedona. "The added power of viewing that data relative to geographic regions or territories empowers business users to make better decisions, faster. And, the ability to access one's data and perform the analysis via an extra, intra or the internet provides the ultimate in flexibility. Knowledge is a company's most valuable asset. SpatialVision allows users to turn data into knowledge to be distributed and fully utilized throughout an entire organization."

Sedona's SpatialVision offers push-button query, spatial analysis, graphic visualization, and hardcopy reporting of information stored in Oracle databases enhanced with Oracle's Spatial Data Option or Spatial Cartridge. Users can simultaneously view multiple data types; such as raster maps, aerial photos, vectors, and text to best visualize the regions of interest. Sedona has simplified the complex process of querying databases so users aren't required to know SQL. It automatically reads the header information from tabular files and intuitively organizes associated data so users can dynamically retrieve and filter specific information with point-and-click ease.

Implementation is extremely simple and low cost. SpatialVision requires only a spatially enabled Oracle database and can be run standalone, on a local area network (LAN) or via the Internet. Sedona's consulting group will work with clients to tailor SpatialVision for specific applications if desired.

Developed using the latest version of Sun Microsystems' Java (NASDAQ: SUNW), SpatialVision has been designed for optimal performance for use with the Internet and is platform independent. Java allows for simple customization, adaptation to various environments and quick development of complimentary and market specific applications.

The outlook for SpatialVision is extremely promising as Oracle presently has an installed base in excess of 14 million seats. In a recent survey of Oracle users, over 5% responded positively with the intention to implement the Spatial Cartridge option of Oracle8. Furthermore, International Data Corporation's (IDC) research has found that 70% of companies worldwide that are planning to use data mining consider visualization to be a critical element

Sedona is now accepting Beta applications for SpatialVision.
