The Monster Board Reaches New Audience of Job Seekers Through Internet TV Appliances and Broadband Cable
Alliances With WebTV Networks, American Interactive Media And CableSoft Tap New Mediums To Help Companies Reach More Job Seekers
MAYNARD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 18, 1998-- The Monster Board, part of the Interactive Division of TMP Worldwide (NASDAQ: TMPW - news), today announced that the company expanded its online career service distribution into the Internet TV appliance and cable television markets through three new strategic alliances. As a result of the agreements with WebTV Networks, Inc., American Interactive Media, Inc. (OTCBB: AIME - news) and CableSoft, The Monster Board will reach an audience of Internet TV appliance users, a new group of job seekers in what typically are non-PC households. The Monster Board will also reach some of the most technologically-savvy PC households through a co-branding agreement with MediaOne Express, a high speed Internet service provider over broadband. These new agreements emphasize the company's strategy to provide maximum exposure of its clients' career opportunities to potential candidates.
''As new means of access continue to integrate the Internet into people's daily lives, it is important for The Monster Board to reach out to this expanding audience,'' said Miller Newton, chief operating officer of The Monster Board and executive vice president of TMP Worldwide. ''Our alliances with WebTV Networks, AIME and CableSoft are significant because they mark The Monster Board's entry into mediums that extend beyond what we might call the 'traditional Internet' into job seekers' living room television sets. The Monster Board will now reach a much broader job seeker audience than it could via PCs alone.''
WebTV Networks, Inc. is dedicated to both enhancing the television experience and providing Internet access for as many people as possible through the WebTV Network and WebTV's end-to-end suite of technological innovations, which include the WebTV Internet Terminal and the WebTV Plus Receiver. As a result of the agreement with The Monster Board, WebTV Networks' more than 400,000 subscribers will have free access to The Monster Board's career information through a click of the career button on ''Around Town,'' the local information page for the WebTV Network Plus and WebTV Network Classic services. According to the company's user studies, 71 percent of WebTV Network subscribers do not own personal computers, illustrating the potential for customers of The Monster Board to reach a brand new audience of job seekers.
Under the agreement with American Interactive Media (www.aim-inc.com), The Monster Board will provide practical ways for the home viewing audience to find jobs and research new careers, using the Web through Internet television. AIME's webPASSPORT Network is an Internet television service that provides a gateway to the Web through television, featuring branded Internet content and original programming. AIME estimates the market potential for non-PC online access to be 70.6 million U.S. television households, making it the next mass Web audience.
CableSoft Corporation, the nation's largest commercially deployed interactive television company, develops on-demand, information-based television services for cable companies to provide to their customers. CableSoft's technology provides a pipeline for Internet content providers to tap into a new mass audience of cable television viewers. The first installation of CableSoft's service was completed on August 4, 1998, in Jacksonville, Florida, and offers the area's 80,000 MediaOne cable subscribers a suite of 12 information television channels customized to the Jacksonville market. CableSoft's on-demand information channels include around-the-clock access to local weather, traffic, sports, entertainment, and now, under the agreement with The Monster Board, up-to-date, local job information. The agreement enables area residents to access The Monster Board via their cable television service, twenty-four hours a day.
The Monster Board also announced a co-branded agreement with MediaOne Express, a national Internet service provider that offers customers high-speed broadband Internet access. As a result, MediaOne Express subscribers will have free and instant access to The Monster Board's more than 50,000 job listings, resume-building and posting capabilities and career advice via the MediaOne Express launch page.
