John, I don't think you are dreaming. I know of one company with a declared short position of around 200M and very persistent rumors of another 1 Mil. undeclared. I am generally not into rumors but this one has hung around for such a long time that even I have come to believe it.
This may be an isolated case but I somehow doubt it
