Idiotype vaccines. In a letter to the editor in Nature Medicine (vol4, no8,aug 1998,p870) K.A. Foon et al., citing their own work at the Univ. of Kentucky, address concerns about the effectiveness of anti-idiotype antibodies in humans that were raised by C. Bona in the June issue of that journal. Foon states that his data show "that the anti-idiotype vaccine approach is ready for clinical use. We see patients with long-lasting IgG humoral and cellular immune responses to a variety of tumor-associated antigens..."
