Davd L Carter,

Good post. I was listening to NPR this morning (biased, liberal, yeah I know) and everyone that called in basically reiterated your post.

One guy did make an excellent point. He says Clinton should fire Starr right now, and explain to the citizenry that these are personal matters and in his view the Starr investigation is impeding political progress of any kind not only for himself but on Capital hill in general. The point being that standing up to Starr and this idiocy would probably be viewed positively at this point - the cat is out of the bag as far as what Clinton did etc, no one is really expecting anything new out of Starr.

The problem is I dont know if firing Starr at this point is possible - well Nixon did it, but were laws enacted after Watergate?
