Many people want to feel on top and insist that their view is true. This leads many to ignore parts of scripture that would point out their error. This is why we must take all of scripture into account and let scripture interpret scripture. The first half of your post is very encouraging to me. Don't sweat the small stuff. God loves you and has made a way for you to come home to him. Open the door wide and you will see the truth of this. We will then have eternity to debate the finer points of His revelation.
