RE: But these guys on NPR seemed to think otherwise. The caller made an excellent point that in general people are really disliking this personal witchhunt, regardless of how they feel about Clinton. Michelle, I have thought about this for some time. I have problems with this Clinton episode mostly due to the way I feel he abused the power structure..i.e. Doctor/Patient relationship kind of thing. But I suppose I could rant on that later. Instead, I might mention that something has really crawled under my skin about this ordeal. I mean, I feel bothered beyond the usual reaction to such news as we have endured. I found enlightenment in a short episode of my life which I will recall here, hopefully for your enjoyment... When my sister was 5 and I was 9, I noticed that she began getting me 'in trouble' more than usual. This usually lead to a spanking or grounding etc. I overheard her one day as she relayed to her friends that she could lie to my parents anytime she liked and get me punished for nothing. She began really enjoying bragging to her friends about this.....quite troubling for a 9 year boy old who, after all, was always innocent ;-) Anyway, this was about the time the cassette recorder had become a consumer item. We had one! Bing! ...an idea... So I wired her room with a mike to catch her in the act of confessing to her friends that I could be toast anytime she wished. How wonderful it would be for me...If I could get it on tape. Then surely Dad would make things right when he heard it. I would be liberated! One evening everything fell into place and in a spilling of her guts I got the dirt on tape. In my excitement I ran straight to my dad to show him that I had been the victim after all. He carefully listened as my sister spelled out the bloody details of her plots against me. He then got quiet for a moment as if pondering... He then got out of his chair and beat the hell out of ME! Only recently did I fully appreciate the true depth and meaning of that episode. B.
