July quarter from $2,500 three months earlier.

Dell, which sells directly to customers and thus keeps little
inventory, has capitalized on the falling prices of PC
components like chips and disk drives. The company has
attributed the decline in average selling prices for PCs to
lower prices for these computer parts."
