Nancy,

<<Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter had these qualities and I miss them.>>

To speak purely from personal experience, during Ronald Reagan's Presidency I recall 8 years of unflinching support for a corrupt, vicious, dictator who robbed my adopted country blind, and drove underground or killed many honest and decent people who sought constructive change. This occurred despite overwhelming evidence that the presence of the dictator was actually spurring the growth of a communist insurrection. But Reagan and Marcos were old buddies, and that counted more than the evidence.

If sexual excess was Clinton's tragic flaw, perhaps excessive faith in old buddies was Reagan's. But nobody in America gave a damn because it wasn't our tragedy.

Sorry, but if I have to choose a tragic flaw, and under a big enough magnifying glass everyone will have one, I'd choose Clinton's over Reagan's. Fewer people get hurt.
