Do we have to go though all the reasons that this cannot be done again?

In addition to what Laura and Michelle said:

Competitors would have to DROP THEIR CHANNEL. This would be a very expensive move until the company could establish itself as a BTO/JIT company (if it ever could). Dell has too far of a head start.

It reminds me of a joke. A kid comes up to a Disk Jockey and says, "When I grow up I want to be a DJ just like you." The DJ replys, "You can't have both."

You can't have both the Dell model and still sell through retail channel too. To drop the retail channel this late in the game would kill the company.

The only one who could copy Dell would be a new guy on the block and then what Michelle said would still apply.

Regards,

Phil
