I actually approve of many of Reagan's domestic economic policies, though I doubt that even a Republican Congress would have removed the deficit at that time (nor am I convinced that an instant transition from deficit spending at that time would have been a great idea).

However, we can't evade the truth that his utter cluelessness (and that of the myopic ideologues around him)on foreign policy wrought indescribable havoc on many small countries that would otherwise have had a reasonable chance of avoiding it. The reverberations are still being felt today in many of these countries, and while we do our best to ignore them or deny any responsibility, history - and many of the individuals affected - will not accept those denials.
