Playing the Split 101

For those of you short term people who would like to know the "typical " action of a stock price during the split phase here it is.

1) Announcement ... about 2 days of ++

2) Profit taking ... will drop down about 1/2 of what it went up in the 2 day run up. (This phase and others have time-frames dependent on how long between announcement and actual split.)

3) Another run up until split date. Usually higher than first run up, about 15% higher than initial run up.

4) Post split DROP, (WARNING this may occur during the last half of the trading day BEFORE the split) This drop will usually bring the stock back down close to the levels of the first run up.

5) Rebound 1-2 days. Usually a small rebound (2-3%)

6) Steady decline back to pre-split announcement level and then a return to original upward channel.

All % are in regards to the amount of run-ups and NOT the total price of the stock.

Dell, is weird, Dell is amazing, Dell is the unusual.

IMO, this pattern will hold true except for the drop back down to original pre announcement levels. The earnings forecasts are just to good to have it drop back that much. If you want to risk timing this thing be my guest but if you can't watch things minute by minute leave it alone.

Good luck to all, I'm going to sleep now to dream about tomorrows gap up.
