Troy,

>>>there are significant differences in a temporary planned shut down of a $10M pilot plant and the shut down of a $100M+ plant that is supposed to be able to produce commercially,<<<

There are actually FEW differences. Shell no more has only 10 million in this thing that you have an understanding more the cost of a pilot plant. READ the article. The pilot plant already cost more than 10 Mil, and the costs will continue to soar as Shell continues to open it and close it "to make routine adjustments". (They are planning on spending a Billion dollars to reach commercial production, Troy). Heck, the article states that they have ALREADY contracted to shell out (pun intended) 440 MIL for the pipeline alone, and $440 MIL is greater than $100 Mill...isn't it?

By the time Shell is ready for commercial production the cost will far exceed the meager $100 MIL figure. You know this, Troy...yet you seem to simply want to taunt the tread with some narrow interpretation of what the Shell spokesperson said in the article. What's up with that? You are usually more open minded about these things...

One difference that DOES come to mind, however, is the fact that Shell has a boatload of money to 'tweak ' its' process and SOLV did not. Another difference is that Shell has lost 12.9 Billion more at this oilsands game than has SOLV...and produced the same amount of oil. Hmmmmm...perhaps Shell just simply needs a better process than what they have been using!

regards,

bigtoe
