"Now the banks have the opportunity to do for bill presentment what they have accomplished for bill payments: organize and relate these services to cash management. If the banks fail to move ahead and develop the required electronic services for this market, they will be disintermediated by the Internet portal companies, third-party providers, and more aggressive banks who do offer these services.

"The banks never had content before. Now they do in the form of the bill. If they get the market concept right, the banks will see a new developing revenue stream as they take over the accounts of less aggressive banks," Killen continued. "If they get it wrong, they will lose the heart of an entire class of retail business and their connection for services and loans.

"Ultimately, they will exit the business as former customers turn to other financial institutions and Internet portals offering consolidated bill presentment and payment services."

Is there an echo here????

BTW, Hey Brooks, think you can get Tom a job as a occasional contributing writer?
