Funny, I didn't hear Microsoft telling us to wait 2 years and they were quite willing to sell us versions 5 and 7 when they came out. Excel 5 is what we still use at work because it is all we need. You need more features than most users because of what you are trying to do. It will be far easier for Formula One to implement the new features that Excel 2000 has than it will be for Microsoft to dream up new ones. Rather than innovate, new startups should do what Microsoft has done all along: Identify the leader and imitate; leveraging Java instead of Windows naturally. Next on the list? MS-Word of course. Once IBM starts rolling out those 1GHz PPC's we should see Java really take off. Of course, when SUN starts shipping Java chips we should see old WinCE in the MS Museum next to the MSN exhibit.
