Dear Achilles,
Here are a few verses that I use in my opinions, if you have some to share please do.
1 Timothy 3
1 Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer (leader), he desires a noble task.2 Now the overseer must be above reproach the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect.

The verses start by identfying these expectations to be for leaders and not all men. These are my personal boundaries of expectations on leaders and realise that not everyone is expected to use this as a standard. However, God is wise and if we meditate on his requirements we can see some of the wisdom behind these requirements. THere are men that can meet these standards I have known some.

Hebrews 13:4
Marriage should be Honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

Now I do ont believe like some that the judgement of God is always eternal damnation but for the people that love Him and believe in Him I think the punishment is in this life and very real. How would I know this? Believe me I do and am learning now how much He carefully disciplines us in everything, as a loving Father.

One other point from a Biblical perspective: When the leaders or Kings were corrupt and lead the people away from being moral the whole Nation suffered. This is also a historical fact that corrupted leaders destroy Nations no matter how small it may seem in the beginning without an acknowledgement and change of behavior it will escalate and bring troubles for many. Maybe that is why God puts so many requirements on the leaders.
Lets pray for Mercy and a humbling for Clinton,
Nancy
