My understanding is that OTEXF's original search engine was developed by a couple of professors at University of Waterloo. Given the Canadian penchant for overbuilding, they developed one helluva search engine. They introduced it as an internet search product and licensed to Yahoo. Their product was a dismal failure, not because the technology was unsound, because they were competing against smart marketers like Yahoo and Excite. What to do?

They took the core technology and recycled it as an intranet knowledge management product. What does that mean? Company A has 10,000 employees and offices all over the world. Half their files are written in Fortran. The other half a written in Basic. The third half (sic) are written in C++ and the fourth half are written in an obscure language only the company understands.

Because Livelink is based on the core search engine technology, it can search all company files (and do it fast) delivering the relevant files to the employee who needs them (saving huge amounts of time and money).

Thus the power of Livelink. So, what is the comparison between Livelink and Lotus Notes?
