They're Not Viagra! They're Candy!
Wednesday August 19 10:06 AM EDT

HANOVER, Germany (AP) - Two Germans hoping to cash in on demand for the hot new impotency drug Viagra faced fraud charges instead Wednesday after a customer realized the pills he bought were really just peppermints dyed blue.

Two men, ages 40 and 41, began offering their pills in early August on the Internet at four for 99 marks ($55), with discounts for buying more. The real Viagra was introduced in the United States only this year, where it sells for $10 a pill.

Hanover police said Wednesday they were alerted to the scam by a customer, who realized afterward that what he'd bought was only peppermint candy.

Police searched the apartment and confiscated peppermints, blue dye, extensive papers and a computer. The two men face charges of fraud and violating prescription drug laws.

Police said they didn't know how many men were taken in by the pair.
