PDG- Time is money
When you work for yourself, you are the artist AND the computer support technician. It's the tech support that kills me at work.
(home)Mac- plug my $150 el-cheapo scanner in, 10 minutes later it works.
(work)NT- plug in the $1800 scanner. Find out the SCSSI card is incompatible (2 weeks). Install a new one. It doesn't work. Microtek says to download new drivers. Doesn't work. MicroTek says try Win95- tech support says "no way, no how" will they even attempt making my NT a "dual boot" system, and they won't support Win95. Three month later, i give up. I just learn what buttons and options will hang photoshop or cause the scanner to buzz and vibrate like a coffee grinder on overload, and limp along. Tech support thinks this is normal. Don't even get me started on networking problems or adding another monitor.
Now, sometimes people should just buy a Wintel machine. I think Linda should just buy an el-cheapo HP or Compaq to get realtime quotes on, and use her mac for the good stuff. Of course, tech support costs, and so does desk space, and if you just hate windows... (an who doesn't)
