OT----------------------
>>The next major OS releases are Mac OS 8.5 and the beta of Mac OS X (ten). OS 8 will be upgraded into 2000 (or 1900 for some of you), and the release version of OS X should be ready by Summer 1999.
OS 8.5, 8.6 and Sonata will be fully compatible with G3 and non-G3 Macintosh. In OS X's case, the compatibility issues are far from being decided. Since it's written in the same high-level language to write Rhapsody, it's just as portable as Rhapsody. My guess is that PowerPC 604's And 603's -- or even older Macs upgraded with G3 processor cards -- will be supported.<<
Ian, still being confused, I asked my tech teacher about that again, his response to your info:
>>>These statements are not true. To run OSX/Rhapsody you need an "open firmware" mac. Of all the macs shipped, only the latest have open firmaware roms. Also, nubus is not supported at all. PCI only.
The G3 macs all have open firmware roms and have the performance to make Rhapsody seem fast.
OS8 and it's progeny are designed for compatibility with the older macs |
