J-R, here's the government's announcement on the PC Docs deal which provides some additional perspective. The bottom line will depend on how many seats will actually be implemented over the years.
But again, as in recent announcments re SAP etc., it does show the extent to which CGI is out there winning in competitive situations and in areas where where we didn't even know they had expertise.
LOCAL HIGH-TECH COMPANY WINS GOVERNMENT OF CANADA CONTRACT
OTTAWA, August 19 /CNW/ - As many as 200 jobs could be maintained with
CGI Information Systems and Management Consultants Inc. as a result of a
six-year competitive contract. The local high-tech company will provide
federal departments and agencies with a suite of off-the-shelf computer
software and services to support their document and records management
functions. The initial contract is valued at $1.7 million, but could increase
to $109 million depending on usage.
The announcement was made today by Mac Harb, MP for Ottawa Centre, on
behalf of the Honourable Alfonso Gagliano, Minister of Public Works and
Government Services. ''This contract is an example of how Canadian expertise
in computer software can make the Government of Canada's operations more
efficient and ultimately more cost-effective,'' said Mr. Harb. ''I'm pleased
as well that it will provide continuity of employment in the area.''
The software is an integrated Records, Document, Information Management
System (RDIMS) and will assist departments in handling such tasks as work
flow, document management, report writing, text retrieval, imaging, and
records management. Over the course of the contract, which runs until
mid-July 2004, it is estimated that the demand for the software could be as
high as 100,000 users.
Funding for this contract was provided for in the February 1998 federal
budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
