don't know if this has been posted ... __Tatung Rolls Out Sun Workstation Clones___ Tatung Science & Technology yesterday started shipping a powerful Sun-compatible workstation line for less than $20,000. The Compstation U60-2360, a clone of Sun Microsystems' Ultra 60 machine, runs on dual 360-MHz UltraSparc-II chips. The Compstation U60-2360 is available in tower and rack- mount configurations. The machines support high-performance graphics and Java-development applications, the kinds of work done by engineers and geophysicists. The tower model starts at $15,990. The rack-mount system starts at $16,270. In addition to undercutting Sun on price, Tatung says it hopes to differentiate its system by doing custom configurations. --Martin J. Garvey
