I've used Java a good bit on Sun and HP. HP's implementation is terrible. It runs MUCH slower than Sun's and the Java Virtual Machine from HP core dumps constantly if you have a sizeable amount of Java code. Sun's is much, much more stable. HP has a long way to go on their JVM. With one of our Java apps we ended up buying a Sun server because it just wouldn't run reliably on HP-UX 10.20 with HP's latest JVM.

I don't know why Linus would say this. I assume he just doesn't have much experience with Java and is making an assumption from things he's read in the news.
