California Department of Social Services Orders Additional TouchPrint 600 Systems; Sylvan/Identix Joint Venture to Provide Fingerprint Services for Applicants SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 1998-- Order to Identix Valued in Excess of $500,000 Identix Inc. (ASE:IDX), a leader worldwide in live-scan systems and biometric identity verification systems, Thursday announced the receipt of an order from the California Department of Social Services (DSS) to purchase additional TouchPrint 600(TM) (TP-600) systems. In addition, the DSS has contracted with Sylvan/Identix Fingerprinting Centers LLC to provide fingerprinting services for the screening of prospective Community Care licensees and employees. The units will be installed at pre-employment processing centers in various State Community Care Licensing offices to screen prospective applicants as part of the DSS licensing procedures. The DSS screens prospective applicants such as foster parents and day care workers. The order to Identix for the TP-600 systems and upgrades for DSS existing units is valued in excess of $500,000. Sylvan/Identix LLC will be compensated separately for providing the ongoing fingerprinting services. According to Andy Ah-Po, chief, Criminal Records Clearing Bureau, Central Operation Branch, the DSS anticipates that the TP-600s will save the department time, cut costs and improve accuracy in screening as many as 200,000 applicants per year. "We are extremely pleased with the two Identix live-scan systems we have been using, and believe the additional systems, along with upgrading our original two, will expand our local capability to cut background screening time to three work days or less," he said. "Additionally," Ah-Po continued, "the fingerprint services provided by Sylvan/Identix will greatly reduce both time and expense for the DSS for the initial screening of applicants. Time and money that would have been spent actually taking and processing applicant fingerprints for background checks, can now be directed towards implementing additional program enhancements and improved customer service. "We are confident that this relationship will not only ensure a more efficient background check, but will also enable the DSS to provide a more complete overall screening process," he said. Identix Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Randall C. Fowler, commented: "The screening by the DSS for prospective applicants is an important step in providing quality social services personnel for the State of California. Our technology promises to play a key role in the process by providing the DSS with the latest in leading-edge live-scan equipment, as well as providing fingerprint services by our joint venture with Sylvan." Identix is a leader in designing, developing, manufacturing and marketing products for the capture and/or comparison of fingerprints for security, anti-fraud, law enforcement and other applications.
