Yes, you are right in that networking is moving "home". Generally, however, I wonder if it won't be quite awhile before it amounts to many installs percentage wise.

Besides, when you can buy a 10 Meg NIC for $13.95

Really? I had no idea prices had fallen that far. Pretty amazing as it was only a few years ago when it looked like the "bottom" would be over $75 per port!

I wonder if this explains the stalling of 1394 (Firewire)?? I know they are quite different, but could 10bT hardware substitute? I do know that Intel's customers have balked at wanting 1394 integrated purely because of cost...
