Actually, Chu, the Supreme court's position was a little more nuanced than that: it says that Quebec does not have the right to unilaterally secede, but that the Federal government has the obligation to negotiate.

If anything, this ruling probably should hurt the dollar. Quebec will see this as an insult, thereby making it more (not less) likely of a bad result in a future referendum.

But the dollar is so low already that I doubt if this ruling will have much effect. But what do I know: I've been wrong about the direction of the dollar for the last 8 months and I might be wrong for the next eight months. ;)
