Kaye, Ooops! Yes I wrote before engaging my brain fully (g).

Ayou said, the benefit of taking an IRA/Pension out NOW is that it would be taxed at the lower rate used for AMT (this assumes the taxpayer is in the 39.6% rate normally). Same would apply to most ANY ordinary income that could be accelerated into the year with the big AMT problem.
