P/S ratios of other buyouts has been more in the neighborhood of 1.5 or simply 1. However, I don't think those companies compare to Trimble. My thought was that the buyout might want to match the 52 week high, $24, to attract sellers.

Predators. Don't you get the impression Rockwell is shrinking from GPS? Some of these others have overlap in only one major market segment, e.g., Caterpillar = mining, Honeywell = aviation, Allied Signal = car parts, maybe aviation. If they bought, they would probably sell off other pieces. That doesn't make as much sense as a Lockheed or Qualcomm.

I still don't think this signals a takeover. It seems more likely to me that the Board was worried about a takeover at these depressed prices, but Charlie Trimble wasn't.
