"Experience is what you get when . . ."
By now Nougie had lost his "Mr. Cool" demeanor and was obviously shaken. He was staring down the barrel of a blue-steel magnum pointed at the center of his chest and he had to come up with something quick. Sweating, obviously, and with a rattled voice Nougie continued to bargain for his life . . .
"I have friends. Friends in the broker business who can help us. I can take the information on the stock and have my broker friend purchase options the day before the merger, in several accounts, and purchase shares as well, and we won't have to pay for the shares until we sell", Nougie explained.
"What's special about that? I can purchase shares or options and take my time as well. You're running out of air Nougie. Is this the best you can do?"
"No wait!. I mean, we can buy more and escape suspicion because we will have several accounts and we will sell out our positions and pay for the purchase with a bad check. As soon as the broker receives the check, we have the money from the sale wired to money management checking accounts. Naturally the checks will bounce. But by the time the clearing agent finds out, my broker friend will instruct them to re-deposit the checks and by then we will have covered them with the cash proceeds from the sale. I've done it before".
"We can make out like bandits", Nougie pleaded.
"What makes you think I can't do the same thing on my own?", responded Denice.
"You are affiliated with an investment banking firm. All your funds will have to clear the bank before they will release you any money. Besides, heavy trading in options the day before the merger will be looked upon with suspicion and you will draw attention to yourself. You need me Denice!"
"Alright, I'm in. Who's the sleeze broker?"
"That's my secret. Let's just say his name is Naber"
"Naber? What kind of name is that?", asked Denice. "Sounds like a pimp or a con artist"
"Never mind the name Denice. Do we have a deal?"
"Yea, I guess, but any sign of trouble and you bought yourself a grave Nougie. I know where you live and I know where you work."
"What about Kirk?, asks Nougie.
"Leave him. I'll mess things up here and leave after you're gone. We'll meet first thing monday morning in the restaurant on the first floor of the building. We will then plan to open the brokerage accounts and sort out the details. Bring that slimy broker Naber with you."
"What's the name of the restaurant Denice?"
"R.E.B.'s cafeteria, of course. 6:30 a.m., don't be late Nougie, I mean that".
"O.K., I'll see you at 6:30 a.m. Denice"
"By the way Nougie, my name's not Denice. So don't try to do any research on me"
"I thought I knew you Dencie. Is there anything about you that I do know for sure?"
"Yes Nougie, my boobs are real"
