<Thanks for the response. Your point is quite valid about AMAT not being able to do a hostile takeover b/c of the fleeing of talent.>

Not to be arguementative because I am not involved in the business... BUT, 1.) where would the "talent" go in a market like this. 2.) I would think the "talent" would love to work for a "deep pockets" firm that they know are in it for the long haul. 3.) Unless things in Japan get much worse (certainly possible the way things look) its a pipe dream to think the Japanese would part with their stepper divisions right?

<That leaves SVGI, and I believe de Terossian has already turned down offers.>

I know AMAT "doesnt like" hostile deals supposedly... but lots of other companies have said that and changed their mind when working (trying) with people like Terossian. What does he have to say about it if AMAT bids $23? Tell me current shareholders wouldnt dump their stock at that price! I find it hard to believe that "Mr.T" hasnt lost quite a bit of credibility given his stock price, and he doesnt exactly control any substantial stock, nor has he been buying the stock (he sold at like 18 didnt he!)... IMO if AMAT wants SVGI they are absolutely wearing it unless there is a poison pill in place.
