Dear Graystone and all MORON POLICE . . .
Graystone, The last post was to myself, since you asked that I not post to you. However, I will take your new post to me as permission to address you directly.
crazy The more bizarre the theory, the truer the statements <<I'm sucked into this strange place on SI where people are either crazy, angry, antisocial or just plain mean.>> So, which one are you ? More importantly, what are you accusing me of ?
I'm definitely crazy. However, it has its benefits as I suspect you know. I'm a compulsive seeker of the truth. And would probably rate high on an obsessive/ compulsive psychological scale. I try to make my communication clear and concise. I'm on SI to work, so I take it seriously. However, I may be available to play from time to time. Of course it's always best to be able to whistle while you work.
In my personal and business life I'm known to be intellectually honest. I don't have time for any crap. I don't tolerate any less from others. I'm interested in winning the truth, not the argument. But, I insist that the argument be rational, that assertions are supported, and that statements not be vacuous, or worse yet ill intended.
More importantly, what are you accusing me of
I didn't know what to make of your post. I did receive PM's explaining that you, Len and some of the others were good people, but probably (and I believe mistakenly) thought I was up to no good.
I can tell from the way Jeff Dryer climbed all over you there what all this must look like to you (irony intended). No offense intended, just being direct, why mince words.
Thank you. I'm all for direct. Who has time for, or interest in, less.
Lighten up, this thread is a Coffee Shop Thread, they can be fun if you don't take things to seriously. SI is a good resource, actually it is an excellent resource. SI tolerates stuff way worse than what you are posting.
Good point. I'm just learning the environment here. Obviously, what is appropriate at the coffee shop or bar is different than what is appropriate at the office. To a newbie like me, it takes some education to begin to understand what is obvious and taken for granted by the regulars.
If you run afoul of the regulars here, it may affect your ability to give useful advice
Thanks, another good point. I'm more concerned with my ability to receive useful advice. This is because I'm quite confident that a rational reader will appreciate what I have to say. That is, of course, assuming I might ever know something that is both useful and on topic.
Likewise, I think greater caution is warranted on the part of all in making judgements about others. My approach (after there appears to be a misunderstanding, disconnect, breakdown, hyping, or bashing) is to give the person an opportunity to get back on track with a fair discussion of the matter. I think I've demonstrated that. So I'm comfortable that I won't be blacklisted by the kind of people I want to talk to. And, the others, well, who's got time anyhow.
Finally, I would like to extend an olive branch and apology to Len and Jeff for anything hurtful I may have said or done. However, this should not be misunderstood. This should not qualify me for parole and return to a, "useful place in society," under Section 4 of the Moron Rehabilitation Act of 1998.
"Finally, I think we should consider the possibility that even a truly qualified moron may at some point be rehabilitated. I know it's unusual, but it can happen. Therefore, after an appropriate period of time any Moron should have the opportunity to demonstrate such rehabilitation and be returned to his/her useful place in society. It is often the case that a Moron demonstrates his recovery by displaying knowledge of and insight into his/her own moronic behavior. Therefore, important weight should be given to an admission of such guilt and apology to the community. Perhaps some civic work might be required also."<i/> |
